Georgia Tech, 680/93.7 The Fan Extend, Expand Flagship Agreement

June 28, 2017

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech Athletic Association and Atlanta-based Dickey Broadcasting Company have agreed to a five-year deal that will expand their long-standing partnership, Georgia Tech athletics, Dickey Broadcasting and IMG announced on Wednesday. As part of the agreement, Dickey’s 680/93.7 The Fan – the preeminent sports radio station in the Southeast – will remain the flagship station of the Georgia Tech IMG Sports Network through the 2021-22 academic year.

Details of the five-year agreement include:

  • the Georgia Tech IMG Sports Network radio broadcasts of Yellow Jackets football* and men’s basketball games will be carried live in Atlanta on 680 AM and 93.7 FM, the latter of which has recently increased its signal strength to improve overall distribution of Georgia Tech broadcasts to fans and alumni throughout the Atlanta metro area;
  • 680/93.7 The Fan will also continue to carry regular Georgia Tech programming, including the Paul Johnson and Josh Pastner coaches’ call-in shows, and the weekly “Ask The A.D.” segment with Tech director of athletics Todd Stansbury;
  • expanded Georgia Tech content and reporting on 680/93.7 The Fan, its electronic platforms (680TheFan.com and official social media outlets) and its sister stations, including newly acquired 106.3 FM.

* early-season football broadcasts that conflict with 680/93.7 The Fan’s Atlanta Braves coverage will be carried throughout the Atlanta area on one or more of The Fan’s AM/FM sister stations (1230 AM, 1340 AM, 98.9 FM and/or 106.3 FM)

The extended agreement ensures that the partnership between Georgia Tech athletics and locally owned Dickey Broadcasting, which dates back to 1992, will reach the 30-year mark in 2022.

“We’re excited that 680/93.7 The Fan will remain the flagship station of Georgia Tech athletics and appreciative of Dickey Broadcasting’s commitment to expand the reach and scope of its coverage of the Yellow Jackets,” Stansbury said. “The 25-year partnership between Georgia Tech athletics and Dickey Broadcasting is a great example of the collaboration that exists between top-notch organizations in Atlanta and we are grateful to continue the partnership for years to come.”

“We are thrilled to extend and expand our great partnership with Georgia Tech and IMG,” Dickey Broadcasting Company president David Dickey added. “Our expanded partnership, along with our new studios at The Battery Atlanta will allow Dickey Broadcasting Company to provide Georgia Tech fans with even more prime-time content and gameday coverage. This new long-term extension cements The Fan’s market position as The College Football Voice of the South.”

In addition to the listening in the Atlanta metro area on 680/93.7 The Fan, IMG has ensured that fans in Atlanta and across the world have multiple ways to hear Georgia Tech IMG Sports Network broadcasts, including its statewide radio network, the GT Gameday app, Tune-In Radio and at ramblinwreck.com.

“After a thorough vetting and review of the market, Dickey Broadcasting Company was clearly the best fit for the Georgia Tech IMG Sports Network in terms of broadcast coverage, promoting the Yellow Jackets and carrying out the Georgia Tech message in the Atlanta community and beyond,” Georgia Tech IMG Sports Marketing general manager Dave Bouteiller said.

Georgia Tech IMG Sports Network programming returns to the airwaves on Monday, Aug. 28 with the 2017 debut of the Paul Johnson Show. The first game broadcast of 2017 is set for Monday, Sept. 4 when the Jackets kick off the season versus Tennessee in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at brand-new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in downtown Atlanta. Georgia Tech IMG Sports Network coverage begins at 6 p.m. with kickoff slated for 8 p.m.
