Friday’s Game at No. 23 Clemson Halted Due to Weather

April 22, 2016

CLEMSON, S.C. – The ACC series opener between No. 26 Georgia Tech and No. 23 Clemson was halted at 9:19 p.m. Friday because of lightning and rain.

Junior RHP Matthew Gorst struck out three straight Clemson batters in the bottom of the 8th just seconds before the umpires stopped play. When play was stopped, Georgia Tech (25-12, 8-9 ACC) and Clemson (25-12, 8-10 ACC) were tied at 7-7.

Play will resume at 4 p.m. Saturday. The second game will begin at the regularly scheduled time of 6:30 p.m. on WREK 91.1 FM.

Clemson took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning on a pair of Georgia Tech errors. The Yellow Jackets responded with seven unanswered runs, thanks to a solo home run by Connor Justus in the 3rd, RBI base hits by Matt Gonzalez and Kel Johnson in the 5th, and three more runs in the 7th.

With two outs in the 7th, Clemson scored five runs to tie the game at 7-7.
