GREENSBORO, N.C. – Five Georgia Tech softball players were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team, the ACC announced Monday.
Juniors Alysha Rudnik and Hayley Downs, and sophomores Karly Fullem, Katie Johnsky and Chelsie Thomas earned the honor. Georgia Tech has had at least five Yellow Jackets named to the softball All-ACC Academic team each year since 2006.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
Rudnik earned the recognition for the third time in her career with a 3.30 GPA during the season and an overall GPA of 3.56.
It marks the second appearance on the team for Downs and Fullem. Downs maintained a 3.20 GPA during the season, and Fullem posted a 3.80 in-season GPA. Thomas and Johnsky garnered the award for the first time with 3.40 and 3.14 GPAs during the season, respectively.
All eight of the league’s softball programs are represented on the All-ACC Academic Team, led by Virginia Tech with six student-athletes. Georgia Tech and Virginia placed five on the squad, followed by Boston College and Florida State with four, Maryland and North Carolina with three, and NC State with two players recognized.
