Top Storylines
• Georgia Tech faces its final ACC Coastal Division foe of the season when it travels to Miami (Fla.).
• Winners of two-straight games in the series (28-21 in overtime in 2019 and 27-21 in 2018), the Yellow Jackets travel to South Florida in search of their first three-game winning streak against Miami since they won four-straight over the Hurricanes from 2005-08.
• The Jackets and Hurricanes were slated to face each other in Miami Gardens last year as part of the ACC’s modified schedule due to Covid-19. The matchup was scheduled for Nov. 21 but postponed until Dec. 19 due to Covid protocols within Miami’s program. The Dec. 19 contest was then canceled due to health and safety protocols within Georgia Tech’s program.
• Georgia Tech has lost consecutive games to Virginia (48-40 on Oct. 23) and Virginia Tech (26-17 last Saturday), marking the first time all season that the Yellow Jackets have won or lost consecutive games. Prior to last Saturday’s setback versus Virginia Tech (the Jackets’ fourth loss by fewer than 10 points this season), Tech had alternated wins and losses throughout the entire 2021 campaign.
• The Jackets face a red-hot Miami squad that has won consecutive games over nationally ranked opponents, defeating then-No. 18 NC State, 31-30, on Oct. 23 and knocking off then-No. 17 Pitt, 38-34, last weekend. The Hurricanes handed both NC State and Pitt their first ACC losses of the season.
• A pair of Georgia Tech standouts reached career milestones in last Saturday’s loss to Virginia Tech. QB Jeff Sims became only the 12th player in Tech history with 3,000 career passing yards and RB Jahmyr Gibbs surpassed 2,000 career all-purpose yards. Both still freshmen eligibility-wise, Sims and Gibbs reached the milestones in just 16 and 15 career games, respectively.
