Eubanks Falls in NCAA Singles Quarterfinals

May 27, 2017

ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia Tech men’s tennis junior Christopher Eubanks ended his run in the NCAA Singles Championship on Saturday, falling to Virginia’s Thai-Son Kwiatkowski 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

“Chris started the match well and was playing his game,” said Tech head coach Kenny Thorne. “He made some good adjustments on his return game to get the break and the first set. The early break in the second hurt Chris’ momentum.

“I know Chris was disappointed but it was an incredible season for him. He fought like a champion all season and made the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship. More than that, he carried himself on and off the court with pure class. He is a champion. He made the Georgia Tech fans and alumni very proud all season.”

Eubanks and Kwiatkowski engaged in a back and forth duel in the first set, each pocketing their service games to a score of 5-4 with Eubanks having the opportunity to win the set with a break. The Atlanta native did just that, breaking to take the first set, 6-4.

Kwiatkowski fought back, breaking Eubanks to start off the second set. The Virginia senior held onto that momentum, rolling to a 6-2 to bring the match to a decisive third set.

Eubanks battled hard but could not regain the momentum to break in the third, dropping the set by a score of 6-4.
