May 29, 2011

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech shortstop Jacob Esch has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America third team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) this week.

It is the third straight year a Georgia Tech player has been named to the Academic All-America team, after former shortstop Derek Dietrich earned the honors in 2009 and 2010.

Esch is batting .319 with 21 doubles, six home runs and 37 RBI in his third season on the Flats, while maintaining a 3.65 cumulative GPA as a civil engineering major at Georgia Tech.

The St. Paul, Minn. native is also one of 25 quarterfinalists for the Brooks Wallace Award, given to the nation’s top shortstop.
