COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior Ryan Bishop clocked a season-best time of 2:01.65 in the preliminaries of the 200-yard breaststroke to advance to the championship finals at the 2006 Men’s Atlantic Coast Conference Championships on Saturday afternoon. Finals will begin at 7 p.m. tonight in Maryland’s Campus Recreation Center.
Sophomore Onur Uras posted a personal-best time of 1:49.58 in the 200 butterfly to finish in ninth place, qualifying for the consolation finals.
Junior Alex Williams and senior Teemu Kettunen also made the consolation finals for the Jackets. Williams swam a season-best time of 2:03.03 in the 200 breast, while Kettunen posted a season-best time of 45.20 in the 100 free.
Advancing to the bonus finals for Tech was senior Jason Howard, redshirt freshman Chris Ewald and freshmen David Rifkin and Mauricio Sousa. Howard finished in a tie for 16th place in the prelims of the 100 free with a season-best time of 45.20, but lost the swim off.
Rifkin and Ewald will swim in the consolation finals of the 200 fly, posting season-best times of 1:50.61 and 1:51.75, respectively.
Sousa finished with a lifetime-best time of 1:53.15 in the 200 backstroke to move on to the consolation finals for the Jackets.
