Dragoo Named to Academic All-District At-Large First Team

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech senior golfer David Dragoo has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III first team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday afternoon. Sophomore tennis players Guillermo Gomez and Ryan Smith were named to the second team.

Dragoo, who graduated in May with honors and maintained a 3.64 grade-point average in Economics, is eligible for Academic All-America honors.

The Scottsdale, Ariz., native, who is preparing to play in the NCAA Championship next week, currently is ranked No. 138 in the nation in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. He has a 74.10 stroke average, third-best on the team, and has finished in the top 20 in four of 10 events this year.

Gomez, a sophomore from Alicante, Spain, has a 3.4 GPA in Industrial Engineering while playing No. 1 singles for the Yellow Jackets. Gomez posted a 28-9 overall singles record this year and made the singles draw at this year’s NCAA Championship. Smith, a sophomore from Marietta, Ga., has a 3.92 GPA in Biochemistry. Smith posted a 13-17 singles mark this year, primarily at the No. 5 and 6 positions, and a 17-17 record in doubles play.
