Diver Brandon Makinson Earns Gold Medal At 2009 Canada Games

PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND – Georgia Tech freshman diver Brandon Makinson won a gold medal in the one-meter event at the 2009 Canada Games, which are being held through Aug. 29 in the province of Prince Edward Island.

On the one-meter springboard, Makinson scored 368.25 points in the finals to take home Alberta’s first gold medal of the games. He scored 294.30 points in prelims. Makinson also competed in the three-meter and platform events. On the three-meter board, he was ninth with 337.05 points after securing a fourth-place spot (369.35) following prelims. On the platform, he finished 22nd with a score of 187.15.

The Canada Games are a national multi-sport and cultural event being held August 15-29, 2009 in the Province of Prince Edward Island, Canada. Since 1967, the Canada Games has evolved to become the pinnacle of national competition for Canadian athletes.
