Dispigna, Finley Named ABCA/Rawlings All-Region

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech baseball’s outfielder Angelo Dispigna (Lawrenceville, Ga./Brookwood HS (Mercer)) and two-way player Jackson Finley (Richmond Hill, Ga./Richmond Hill HS) continued to earn postseason honors, being named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Southeast Region, the coaches association announced Tuesday.

Dispigna was named to the association’s first team, while Finley was named to the award’s second team.

In just his first season on The Flats, transfer outfielder Dispigna was a veteran presence at the plate and in left field for Tech this season. Starting all 57 games this season, Dispigna lead the team with a .393 average, recording 86 hits, 12 doubles and 16 home runs for 58 RBI. He slugged .667 and with a whopping 46 walks drawn, reaching base at a .509 rate. He also had eight stolen bases on the year.

The Lawrenceville, Ga. native ranked top 10 in a myriad of ACC categories at the end of the regular season to be second-team all-ACC – third in on-base percentage, fifth in hits, sixth in total bases, eighth in walks, eighth in RBI, 10th in home runs, and 10th in slugging percentage. He also earned CSC Academic All-America honors this year.

Finley was named all-ACC as a utility/designated hitter after already earning semifinalist status for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award. At the plate, Finley was a menace, hitting .328 overall for 65 hits, 17 doubles and a team-best 17 home runs for 61 RBI. Tech’s Sunday starter for the season as well, the Richmond Hill, Ga. native worked to a 6.47 ERA, with two wins and 42 strikeouts.

In the ACC, Finley ranked third in RBI, sixth in home runs, seventh in slugging percentage (.686), and eighth in doubles.

First team all-region selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-America teams will be announced the morning of Friday, June 16.
