Dietrich Tabbed to ESPN The Magazine All-America Second Team

May 28, 2009

ATLANTA – Yellow Jacket shortstop Derek Dietrich has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America second team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) this week.

Dietrich’s inclusion on the Academic All-America team marks the second-straight year a Georgia Tech baseball player has received second-team honors, and he becomes the first Yellow Jacket shortstop since Nomar Garciaparra to receive Academic All-America accolades.

The Parma, Ohio native is batting .306 with nine home runs and 49 RBI in his second season on the Flats while maintaining a 3.41 cumulative GPA as a management major at Georgia Tech.

Dietrich was one of 19 members of the 2009 Georgia Tech baseball team to be named to the Dean’s List following the spring semester.
