Dietrich Tabbed Third Team Preseason All-American by NCBWA

Dec. 29, 2008

ATLANTA – Sophomore shortstop Derek Dietrich has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-America Third Team, the NCBWA announced earlier this month.

Dietrich was the only Yellow Jacket to appear on one of the NCBWA’s three preseason All-America squads and one of nine Atlantic Coast Conference players listed on the 2009 teams.

Dietrich, a second-team All-ACC selection as a freshman and the National Freshman Hitter of the Year by the NCBWA in 2008, returns for his second season as the Yellow Jackets’ starting shortstop after spending the summer competing for the USA National Team. The Parma, Ohio, native hit .332 with 14 home runs and 66 RBI in his first year on the Flats and helped lead the Americans to the gold medal at the FISU World Championships in July.
