GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech’s Derek Dietrich has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Co-Player of the Week after his performance in leading Tech to a 5-0 record from March 23-28. He shares the honor with Florida State’s Tyler Holt.
Dietrich batted .520 (13-for-25) with two doubles, two triples, two home runs and nine RBI to lead Georgia Tech to two wins over Mercer during the week, and a three-game series sweep over 17th-ranked North Carolina in Chapel Hill on the weekend.
The Parma, Ohio, native held a 1.000 slugging percentage, a .538 on-base percentage, amassed 25 total bases and was a perfect 2-for-2 in stolen bases. Dietrich twice set a career-high for hits, grabbing four against Mercer last Tuesday, before eclipsing that mark with five against No. 17 North Carolina on Sunday.
Dietrich was 5-for-7 on Sunday vs. UNC. His two-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning capped a five-run rally by the Jackets, tying the game at 8-8, and sending it into extra innings, where Georgia Tech eventually won 11-8 in the 10th. The junior shortstop has hit a home run in five of his last six ACC games, and currently has six round-trippers on the year.
