Derrick Morgan Named Finalist For Hendricks Award

Dec. 2, 2009

CHICAGO – Georgia Tech junior Derrick Morgan was named one of seven finalists for the Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award, the Ted Hendricks Foundation announced Wednesday.

Morgan ranks first in the ACC and sixth nationally in sacks (12.5), and he ranks second in the ACC and tied for 17th nationally in tackles for loss (17.0). The Coatesville (Pa.) native was named first team All-ACC earlier this week.

Morgan is three sacks shy of breaking the Georgia Tech single-season sacks record of 15.0, held by Pat Swilling in 1985. His 12.5 sacks are the most by a Yellow Jacket since Greg Gathers had 13.0 in 2000.

Other finalists include Jeremy Beal (Oklahoma), Brandon Graham (Michigan), Jerry Hughes (TCU), Sergio Kindle (Texas), Von Miller (Texas A&M) and Greg Romeus (Pittsburgh).

The winner of the Hendricks Award will be announced Dec. 9.
