OXFORD, Ala. — The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country squads prepare to open the season as they travel to Oxford, Ala., for the 2015 JSU/Struts Invitational hosted by Jacksonville State University. The women’s 4K will began at 7:15 p.m. ET, followed by the men’s 5K at 7:45 p.m. ET at the Oxford Lake Complex.
Friday’s field will be the largest in the history of the meet, featuring over 300 runners. Tech’s top men’s performer from last season, Jeremy Greenwald, returns as a graduate student. Greenwald was Tech’s top finisher in each of their six meets last season, winning the first three.
Zane Coburn, who finished fifth at last season’s UGA Invitational, also returns for the men’s team. Hayley Keadey, an Atlanta native, finished tops among returning runners in the final three meets of last season, including 61st at the ACC Championships and 73rd at the NCAA South Regional.
“It’s that time of year of new beginnings and high hopes, and we’re ready and excited,” head coach Alan Drosky said. “Both the men’s and women’s teams returned from the summer in good shape. So we’ll line up Friday evening against some solid competition and get our first real look at where we’re at. From our first two-and-a-half weeks of practice we can get a good idea, but the crucible of competition is the real test.”
