ATLANTA – Amanada Craddock, Ashlee Kidd, James Lemons II, Danny Payne and Cameron Tringale were honored Monday as the Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of April 23, 2007.
Craddock, a freshman from St. Louis, Mo., led the Yellow Jacket tennis team to their third consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference championship. Craddock ended the tournament with a 3-0 record in singles and a 2-0 mark in doubles to earn MVP honors. She posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Miami’s 50th-ranked Audrey Banada to tie the match at 1-1 after the Hurricanes won the doubles point to start the day.
Kidd, a senior from St. Petersburg, Fla., was partially responsible for 33 of the Jackets 82 points at the ACC Championship meet. She placed second in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best and NCAA Regional qualifying time of 23.20. Kidd also ran legs of the ACC Champion 4×100-meter relay team, who finished with a season-best and NCAA Regional qualifying time of 44.33 and the 4×400-meter relay team that crossed the line fourth with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 3:41.97.
Lemons, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., won the triple jump with a personal-best and NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 52 feet, 4 inches at the ACC Championships. His mark broke the track record in the triple jump. Alphonso Jordan placed third in the event with an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 50 feet, 4 ½ inches and was followed in fourth by Miller, who also had an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 49 feet, 9 ¼ inches.
Payne, a junior from Woodstock, Ga., helped the Jackets to a perfect 4-0 record on the week, including a sweep of 20th-ranked NC State over the weekend. Was a perfect 3-3 with a walk and two RBI’s in the second game against the Wolfpack. He also played an important role in the Jackets 8-2 win over Georgia by going 2-4 with a pair of runs and two RBI’s.
Tringale, a sophomore from Laguna Niguel, Calif., tapped in a birdie putt on the 18th hole to force a tie with Virginia Tech Sunday, to give the 12th-ranked Yellow Jackets a share of the ACC men’s golf championship for the second straight year. Tringale followed his freshman year title with a second-place finish this time, posting a 54-hole total of 209, seven strokes under par and one behind the leader.
