THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s Keshav Chopra and Andres Martin received main draw doubles wildcards into the Truist Atlanta Open presented by Fiserv, tournament officials announced on Thursday. The local ATP 250 event, which is played at Atlantic Station, begins July 24 and runs through Aug. 1.
Chopra and Martin paired together in nine matches for Georgia Tech this past season, producing a 7-2 record, including a 5-2 dual ledger. Additionally, Chopra, a native of Marietta, Ga., recorded a 14-10 overall singles record to go along with a 12-9 dual mark.
“This is super special,” commented Chopra. “I remember watching other players that received wildcards into the event and it gave me the belief that I could too.”
Martin, a second-team all-ACC honoree, earned at-large bids into the 2021 NCAA Men’s Tennis Championships in both singles and doubles. The Flowery Branch, Ga., native advanced to the second round of singles action, collecting a three-set win over Alabama’s Edson Ortiz in opening round action. Martin finished the 2021 season with a 17-8 overall singles record and went 17-5 in doubles.
“I couldn’t be more proud,” said Martin. “I watched these guys when I was 11 and 12 years old. Now I will be out there with them.”
