Athens, Ga. – Georgia Tech sophomore Casey Kay won two matches Saturday to reach the quarterfinals in Division II singles in the Southern Intercollegiate Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The Atlanta native, playing his first event for the Yellow Jackets since transferring from Georgia, defeated Charlie Ghriskey of the College of Charleston in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) in the round of 32, then got past Alabama’s Stuart Kenyon, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, in the round of 16. He will face Suresh Eswaren of Vanderbilt in quarterfinals Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Freshman Cole Fiegel won his round of 32 match in Division II, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4, before falling to Charlotte’s Forrest Edwards, 6-1, 6-1, in the round of 16.
Meanwhile, freshman Carlos Benito dropped a 7-5, 7-6 (3) match to Vanderbilt’s Rhys Johnson in the Division I round of 32, and Colin Edwards lost to Georgia Southern’s Rafael Racy in three sets in the consolation round of Division III.
