Busse Makes Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List

DALLAS – Sophomore right-handed pitcher Terry Busse (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso (John A. Logan JC)) was lauded as one of the nation’s top relief pitchers, being named to the midseason watch list for the 18th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year award, the association announced Wednesday.

The Yellow Jackets’ ace closer, Busse ranks fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference and 21st in the nation with seven saves on the season, holding a 3.99 ERA in 16 appearances. Due to multiple injuries on Georgia Tech’s pitching staff, Busse has also had to make two weekend starts this year, opening against Virginia Tech and then-No. 17 Miami (Fla.).

In just his 14 relief appearances this season, the Valparaiso, Ind. native has worked to a 1.96 ERA and a 35:12 strikeout-to-walk ratio, holding opponents to a .169 average in 23.0 innings of work. He also got the win against Clemson in the come-from-behind, extra-innings walk off.

The NCBWA will announce the finalists for the award on June 7 with the winner being named on June 16 at the 2023 College World Series.

Busse and Georgia Tech remain at home when they host Gardner-Webb for a non-conference matchup on April 28-April 30. First pitch on Friday is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
