ATLANTA – Football player Nathan Burton and volleyball standout Alexandra Preiss were named the Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, September 1, 2003.
Burton, a junior from Lilburn, Ga., scored Tech’s only touchdown in the first game of the season against Brigham Young. The touchdown was an 18-yard score following a blocked punt by freshman Kenny Scott. A former walkon, Burton is a standout performer on multiple special teams units as well as a key reserve for the defense.
Preiss, a senior from Berlin, Germany, led the Georgia Tech volleyball team to a perfect 3-0 record on the weekend, earning her MVP honors while leading the team to the Courtyard by Marriott Classic championship. She currently leads the team with a .462 hitting percentage and stands second with 10 blocks through the three matches this season. Preiss had a season-high 16 kills and five blocks against Coastal Carolina on Saturday afternoon. She also recorded 12 kills against Northwestern and four blocks against Alabama on the weekend.
