Brooks Named Finalist for Ray Guy Award

Georgia Tech’s Durant Brooks was named today as one of three finalists for the Ray Guy Award as the nation’s top punter.

Brooks leads the nation with a net punting average of 40.97 yards per kick, while his gross average of 45.22 ranks sixth nationally.

Joining Brooks as finalists are Daniel Sepulveda of Baylor and Jeremy Kapinos of Penn State.

The Ray Guy Award is presented by the Greater Augusta Sports Council. The winner will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 7, as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN.

Brooks is one of two Yellow Jackets who will appear on the Awards Show; wide receiver Calvin Johnson will be also be there as a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award.

Earlier this week, Brooks was named Atlantic Coast Conference Specialist of the Week for the second time this season, this time for his play in the Yellow Jackets’ win over Duke. He was also honored following the Jackets’ win over Miami, in which he averaged 50.8 yards with a net of 45.2 yards.
