GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Brandon Lasater out-kicked No. 3 Florida’s Sean Obinwa in the final leg to win the men’s 4×800-meter relay and Jhanelle McLeod set a new school record in the triple jump as Georgia Tech wrapped up competition at the Florida Relays.

Georgia Tech edged Florida in the men’s 4×800-meter relay with a time of 7:22.37. Lasater came from behind and out-kicked Florida’s Sean Obinwa, who was fourth in the 800 at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships.

“I knew the team had a good chance coming in,” Lasater said. “Our team has been working really hard this year. I knew I just had to be up there with 200 to go and make something out of it. I’m glad it worked out.”

Zack Fanelty (1:49.3), Jeremy Greenwald (1:52) and Lasater (1:48.3) ran personal-records, and Cole Jackob (1:52.6) was just a second away from resetting his PR, to fuel Tech to the victory.

Jackob led off the 4×800-meter relay for Tech, like his father Bill Jackob did for New York University’s 4×800-relay team that won the event at the Florida Relays in 1969.

In the men’s DMR, the foursome of Greenwald, Alexander Reese, Fanelty and Alec Clifford raced to a third-place finish and a time of 9:59.93.

Jhanelle McLeod won the triple jump and set a new school record with a distance of 13.39m (43’11¼”). Teammate Julienne McKee took third in the event with a jump of 12.90m (42’4”).

Also in the field events, Jonathan Gardner took second in the triple jump with a distance of 15.54m (51’0”).

A group of Yellow Jackets competed at the Auburn Invite this weekend. Monique Pate placed sixth in the javelin throw with a launch of 31.47m (103’3”) and Ashleigh Uhl took ninth (29.01m; 95’2”).

Aaron Unterberger won the pole vault for the third week in a row with a height of 5.30m (17’4½”).

On the track, Ama Larbi placed ninth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.34.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action at the ACC Championships April 18-20 in Raleigh, N.C.
