THE FLATS – Georgia Tech diving competed at the third day of the Zone ‘B’ Diving Championships, hosted at McAuley Aquatic Center. Anna Bradescu and Camryn Hidalgo qualified for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on platform, also hosted at McAuley Aquatic Center.
Both Bradescu and Hidalgo qualified on platform at the 2021 NCAA swimming and diving tournament, both earning All-American honors at the meet.
Bradescu and Hidalgo were joined by Carmen Woodruff in the finals of the platform event. The top nine divers qualify for the NCAA Championships with scores being cumulative from finals. Bradescu was fourth, Hidalgo was seventh and Woodruff was 12th heading into finals.
Hidalgo would climb to sixth with help from her fourth dive, an inward 3 ½ somersault tuck (407C) on 10-meter. She scored all sevens on the dive with a degree of difficulty of 3.2, equating a 67.20 total score for the dive.
Bradescu finished seventh in finals with her best dive coming in the fourth round when she performed an armstand back 2 somersault 1 1/2 twist free (6243D) on 10-meter. Bradescu would total 60.80 on the dive.
The final diver competing in finals for Tech was Woodruff who had her best dive was a back 2 ½ somersault pike (205B) on 10-meter which she totaled 55.10.
Men’s diving competed on the 3-meter board today with Ruben Lechuga qualifying for the finals. Lechuga’s best dive of finals was his sixth dive a forward 2 1/2 somersault 2 twist pike (5154B). The dive has a degree of difficulty of 3.4 which Lechuga scored 21.50 on to total 73.10. Lechuga would ultimately place 15th, failing to qualify on the 3-meter board.
The final event of the Zone ‘B’ Diving Championships will be held Wednesday when the men compete on platform. Lechuga will be joined by Allen Mann at the event.
