Boston University Upends Auburn, 5-0, to Reach Finals

May 17, 2009

ATLANTA – Back-to-back first inning homeruns by April Setterlund and Melissa Dubay helped Boston University to a 5-0 win over Auburn Sunday afternoon at Mewborn Field in the fifth game of the Atlanta Regional.

The Tigers Anna Thompson struck out the first batter she faced but then Setterlund and Dubay each took her deep. Thompson would only register one out in the first inning before being replaced by Jenee Loree.

Loree kept the game close, striking out nine batters in 5.2 innings of relief. Her only mistake came in the bottom of the sixth, when Emily Roesch hit the Terriers third homer of the game, a lined shot to right to push the lead to 5-0.

Boston University’s Cassidi Hardy was stellar, tossing a three-hit shutout and striking out four. Hardy kept the Auburn hitters’ off-balance the entire game.

Boston University will face Georgia Tech Sunday afternoon in the Atlanta Regional Championship game.
