Boston University Suprises Second-Seeded Iowa, 3-1

May 16, 2009

ATLANTA – Cassidi Hardy pitched seven quality innings to lead fourth-seeded Boston University past No. 2 seed Iowa, 3-1, Saturday evening at Mewborn Field in the fourth game of the Atlanta Regional.

The Terriers struck first when Brooke Hudson connected on her third homerun of the season. They would expand their lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring a pair of runs on a bunt single by Christy Leath. Shayne Lotito scored and a throwing error by third baseman Katie Keim allowed Erica Casacci to cross the plate for a 3-0 Terrier lead. This was all Hardy needed.

Over the first six innings, Hardy held the Hawkeyes to only four hits and no runs. Iowa would finally get on the board in the seventh, stringing together three hits but that was all they could muster against Hardy, who forced Sam Heinzman to pop out to the catcher for the final out of the game.

Boston University will next face Auburn Sunday at 10:30 a.m. for the right to face Georgia Tech in the regional championship game.
