Borden Tabbed National, ACC Player of the Week

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech baseball sophomore designated hitter Tim Borden II (Sellersburg, Ind./Our Lady of Providence (Louisville)) was named Collegiate Baseball’s National Player of the Week as well as the ACC’s Player of the Week after a red-hot week offensively, it was announced Monday.

Helping the Yellow Jackets take their second-straight ACC series in a key Coastal Division battle on the road against North Carolina, Borden launched three home runs on five hits for nine RBI, slugging a gaudy 1.154. For the week, the Sellersburg, Ind. native had six hits, a double and four total home runs to slug 1.118 overall.

In the pivotal rubber game against UNC on Sunday, Borden smashed a ninth-inning grand slam to extend Georgia Tech’s lead to five and seal the victory. It was Tech’s second grand slam of the game, believed to be the first multi-grand slam game since March 2, 2007 (vs. Rutgers).

On the season, the transfer from Louisville has been a boon to the Yellow Jackets in many ways. Borden has appeared in 35 games, making 32 starts between second base, shortstop and, most recently, designated hitter. He’s fourth on the team with a .339 average, totaling 38 hits, seven doubles and nine home runs for 29 RBI on the year with a .473 on-base percentage.

Borden also owns both the team’s longest hitting streak (17) and reached base streak (29) for the year.

Borden and Georgia Tech return home for an eight-game homestand beginning on Tuesday, April 19 against in-state Mercer. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.
