Blackwood Named ACC Baseball Player of the Week

April 26, 2004

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech’s Steven Blackwood was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

Blackwood registered a .400 batting average (6-for-15) in four games for the Yellow Jackets this past week to lead Georgia Tech to victories over Winthrop and Florida State.

The sophomore left fielder was instrumental at the plate in the Yellow Jackets three-game sweep over Florida State in Tallahassee accumulating six hits, six runs batted in and five runs scored.

In game one, Blackwood went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, while scoring twice. The Roswell, Ga., native followed that performance on Saturday night with two hits including a two-run homer over the right field wall for his second round tripper of the season. In the final game of the series, Blackwood posted his sixth RBI of the weekend as Georgia Tech won the game, 7-6. The win marked the first time the Seminoles were swept in an ACC series at home since FSU joined the league back in 1992.
