THE FLATS – Georgia Tech freshman Carlos Benito advanced to the consolation finals of the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional, but lost in the finals match to top-16 seed Gordon Watson of Florida, 6-2, 6-1, Tuesday at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.

Georgia’s Nathan Pasha, the No. 2 seed in singles, breezed to the singles championship Tuesday by defeating Sasha Gozun of South Florida, 6-2, 6-1. Pasha never lost a set in his six regional tournament matches, and his tightest contest was a 7-6, 6-4 win over North Florida’s Norbert Nemscek in the round of 16.

Florida State took home the championship in doubles as Benjamin Lock and Marco Nunez defeated the Bulls’ Ignacio Gonzalez and Oliver Pramming, the tournament’s No. 4 seed, 8-2. The FSU duo, unseeded in the regional, knocked off the No. 3 seed (Georgia’s Garrett Grasseauxand Pasha), the No. 7 seed (Georgia State’s Robert Schulze and Sofiane Chevallier) and the No. 6 seed (Florida’s Watson and Elliott Orkin) on the way to the finals.

The singles and doubles champions both advance to compete in the USTA/ITA National Collegiate Indoor Championships, Nov. 7-11 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
