Feb. 11, 2002

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech’s Kyle Bakker earns the first Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week honors of the season.

Bakker, a sophomore left handed pitcher, earns ACC Player of the Week recognition after leading the Yellow Jackets to a season opening 10-2 victory over Georgia Southern. In the win, the Omaha, Neb., native held Georgia Southern to no runs, no walks and just four singles in seven innings of action. Bakker also struckout seven of the 27 batters faced, holding opponents to just a .148 batting average.

Georgia Tech opened the season with two victories over Georgia Southern, a team that went to the NCAA Regional in 2001 and is picked to win the Southern Conference in 2002.
