Archer Pitches Jackets Past Sycamores

Andy Archer's CG shutout is aided by four home runs in must-win game

NASHVILLE – When Georgia Tech baseball needed it most, redshirt senior RHP Andy Archer delivered with a complete-game shutout to give it the 9-0 win over Indiana State on Sunday afternoon in the Nashville Regional at Hawkins Field.

The Yellow Jackets (31-24) also had five home runs, led by Drew Compton’s two (from each side of the plate). Andrew Jenkins, Luke Waddell and Justyn-Henry Malloy also blasted the ball over the fence, while Kevin Parada finished with two hits, two RBI, and Colin Hall had an RBI single.

Archer (5-5) worked nine complete innings, allowing just four hits while striking out seven on the day over a career-high 121 pitches.

The Sycamores (31-21) used seven pitchers on the day with starter RHP Connor Cline (4-3) receiving the loss, surrendering three runs on two hits in just 0.1 innings of work. At the plate, Indiana State was led by Seth Gergely, who finished 2-for-3 with a double.

Georgia Tech will now face off again against Vanderbilt tonight. First pitch is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and WREK 91.1 FM.

  • Archer’s complete-game shutout is the first for Georgia Tech in the postseason since 2013, when Josh Heddinger tossed one in a 5-0 victory against Vanderbilt at Hawkins Field.
