Dec. 8, 2008

Alade Aminu, Brigitte Ardossi, Ryann Kopacka and Noah Copeland have been named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, Dec. 8, 2008.

Aminu posted back-to-back double-doubles against Penn State and Vanderbilt while averaging 14 points and 10.5 rebounds during the week. The senior from Stone Mountain, Ga., had a monster game against the Commodores, scoring 16 points with 11 rebounds while adding four blocks, four assists and four steals in the 63-51 win. He is averaging 14.7 points and 8.8 rebounds on the year to go along with three double-doubles.

Ardossi had 15 points and 10 rebounds while hitting seven-of-eight from the free throw line in a 57-42 win over Georgia. A Melbourne, Australia native, Ardossi scored 10 points while adding seven rebounds in a 70-57 upset win over No. 21 Michigan State. The junior posted her first-career double-double in the win over Georgia, and is shooting 50 percent from the floor and 83 percent from the free-throw line on the year.

Kopacka broke two five-year records at the U.S. Short Course Nationals over the weekend. The junior set a new school record in the 100-back, touching the wall in 55.33 as she just missed a NCAA “B” cut. Kopacka also set the Tech record in the 200-back, swimming a 1:59.60 in the time trials.

Copeland finished fourth in the 200-free at the U.S. Short Course Nationals, breaking his own school record with a time of 1:35.50. The senior came within .06 of breaking school record in the 100-free and .05 seconds of slashing the mark as apart of the 400-free relay team. The Fayetteville, Ga. native’s 1:35.50 time in the 100-free is the best so far in ACC competition.
