THE FLATS – Junior Alysha Rudnik was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week the league office announced Tuesday.
Rudnik helped Tech to a 5-0 opening weekend and totaled nine runs and eight walks, both team-highs. The Lawrenceville, Ga. native, drove in the second most runs on the team with 10 RBI, went 6-for-11 for a .545 batting average and stole three bases.
In the season opener against Eastern Michigan, Rudnik went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI and a triple. In the next game against Butler, she scored three runs and drove in four more to help Tech score 24 runs – the most in an ACC game since NC State defeated North Carolina Central, 24-1, on Feb. 17, 2010.
She was 2-for-2 with two RBI and two walks for her best batting average of the weekend (.625) against Missouri State and in the final game of the tournament she belted her first home run of the season to score two of her three runs.
For the weekend, she had a slugging percentage of 1.000 and an on-base percentage of .667.
The 5-0 weekend helped Tech crack the national Top 25 ESPN.com/USA Softball poll at No. 24 and the Jackets continue to receive votes in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches poll.
