May 24, 2007

ATLANTA–Georgia Tech all-America golfer Roberto Castro was named Thursday to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District III At-Large team for the third straight year.

The senior from Alpharetta, Ga., is now eligible for the Academic All-America team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), for the third straight year. He was a first-team selection last year and a third-team honoree in 2006.

Castro recently earned his degree in Industrial Management, graduating with highest honor with a 3.79 grade point average. He is a one of five finalists for the Byron Nelson Award, presented by the Golf Coaches Association of America to the nation’s top graduating senior.

A three-time All-America selection, including first-team honors in 2005, Castro has been named All-Atlantic Coast Conference four times and has played in two Palmer Cup Matches, serving as U.S. captain in 2005. He recorded his first collegiate tournament victory this season and posted five other top-10 showings. His stroke average ranks among the best in Georgia Tech history.
