Akins in 3-Point Championship, Roundball Challenge

ATLANTA– – Georgia Tech basketball standout Tony Akins will make his final appearance at Alexander Memorial Coliseum at McDonald’s Center when he plays in the NABC Roundball Challenge all-star game Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Akins, a four-year starter for the Yellow Jackets and a 2002 all-Atlantic Coast Conference selection, will be part of the college all-star team that takes on the Harlem Globetrotters. Other college all-stars expected to play include Cincinnati’s Steve Logan, North Carolina’s Jason Capel and Darius Songaila of Wake Forest. The all-star game will be preceded by a slam dunk contest.

Akins will also put his long-range shooting on display in the 14th Annual Slam Dunk and Three-Point Championships, scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Georgia State Sports Arena. Akins’ competition in the Three-Point Championship includes Dan Dickau of Gonzaga and Luke Recker of Iowa. The event will be televised by ESPN on a tape-delay basis on Saturday at 2 p.m.
