#25 Georgia Tech Volleyball Opens Season With Victory

Box Score

The No. 25 Georgia Tech volleyball team cruised to its first victory of the season with a 3-0 win over Texas Tech in the first round of the Utah Classic. The Yellow Jackets captured each game by the scores of 30-26, 30-23, 32-30.

Georgia Tech was led by senior Maja Pachale who tallied 20 kills while hitting an impressive .351, followed by Kyleen Bell who tallied 11 kills and seven blocks. Defensively, freshman Lynnette Moster recorded 12 digs, followed by Amanda Hess who had eight. Sophomore Kele Eveland notched 38 assists and six digs in the match and freshman Lauren Sauer made her presence known as she recorded five stuff blocks and two kills.

“I thought that our team was mentally prepared and able to come out strong today in today’s match,” said Eveland. “Our blocking was very strong today, but I also thought that our defense and serve reception was solid, as well.”

“I was extremely impressed with the amount of composure our team showed on the court today, and there is no question its a result of our trip to Germany,” said head coach Shelton Collier. “OUr veterans stepped up and did what we expected them to do and our young players contributed which was exactly what I thought it was going to take to win the match.”

The 25th ranked Yellow Jackets will take on No. 21 Utah at 7 p.m. tonight in their second match of the Utah Classic.
