19 Student-Athletes Headed to Dominican Republic with FCA

Dec. 12, 2014

THE FLATS – With final exams over, nineteen current Georgia Tech student-athletes will spend the first five days of their holiday break in the Dominican Republic for a service trip with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).

The group, which departs Atlanta on Saturday, will spend five days (Dec. 13-18) in the La Romana community in the Dominican Republic. The first part of each day will feature community service projects such as painting, construction, or clean up. In the afternoons, the student-athletes will host sports camps and participate in other community events.

Tech’s volleyball, women’s basketball, and baseball programs donated balls to be used for the sports camps during the service trip.

Led by FCA campus staff Keith Brown and Marla Williams, and Tech alums Kele Eveland (volleyball) and Alysha Rudnik (softball), the Yellow Jackets will be represented by:

“Our group is so excited for this opportunity. One of the main goals of this trip is to learn by serving others,” Brown said. “We want them to realize that you will go much further in life by helping others and building each other up. “If you focus on making others better, then you will be better.”

A select number of student-athletes are planning to share their experiences from the service trip on the #InsideTheSwarm Blog at www.ramblinwreck.com/blog.
