Box Score

ATLANTA – Amanda White scored 15 points to lead Clemson (16-8, 6-7 ACC) to a 59-47 victory over visiting Georgia Tech (13-12, 4-9) Thursday at Littlejohn Coliseum. The win ended a two-game win streak for the Jackets and a five-game losing streak for the Tigers.

Senior Alex Stewart scored 15 points while pulling down a career-high 13 rebounds, including 11 on the offensive end of the court, for the Jackets. She dished out six assists in the game and had two steals while turning the ball over just twice in her 38 minutes of play. The only other Yellow Jacket in double figures was freshman Stephanie Higgs, who came off the bench to hit three from beyond the arc and totaled 11 points on the night.

The Jackets kept the game as close as eight points until Maggie Slosser hit a jumper with 12:39 remaining in the game. The Tigers led by as much as 12 points at 6:45 as they controlled the second half of play, 28-22.

Georgia Tech out-rebounded the Tigers 49-37, but hit just 9-of-13 from the charity stripe, while Clemson scored 15 points from the line on 19 attempts. The Jackets shot a season-low 24 percent from the floor in the contest, including going 4-for-36 from the three-point arc, while Clemson connected on 43.5 percent of its shots, and 44 percent from beyond the arc. The Tigers scored 26 points in the paint, as compared to the Jackets’ 16.

“I was proud of our team pulling down 32 offensive rebounds,” said Tech head coach MaChelle Joseph. “That’s just hustle points. The fact that we held Clemson to 59 points, as our goal was to hold them to below 60, and outrebounded them by 12 and still not being able to win, that tells me that offensively we had a rough night. We didn’t shoot the ball well from anywhere on the court, and I thought that was a credit to Clemson’s defense.”

White was followed in the scoring column by Lakeia Stokes, who had 14 for the Tigers. White and Slosser also recorded a team-high seven rebounds in the game, while Stokes dished out four assists for the Tigers.

Clemson took a 31-25 lead into the locker room in a first half which saw two ties and 11 lead changes. Amanda White came off the bench for the Tigers to score 12 points while Stephanie Higgs and Alex Stewart scored eight and seven points, respectively, for the Jackets. Neither team led by more than four points at any part of the frame until White hit a layup with 1:14 remaining on the clock to put Clemson up 28-23.

The Jackets return home to host North Carolina Monday at 7 p.m. in a game that will be regionally televised on Fox Sports Net South, Comcast Sports and Sunshine Network. Georgia Tech’s radio broadcast can be heard on WREK-Radio, 91.1 FM in Atlanta, and online at www.wrek.org, while livestats for the contest are available at www.ramblinwreck.com.
