Hadley Shoots 65, Tech Five Shots Back at Carpet Capital Golf

Sept. 15, 2007

ATLANTA – Chesson Hadley blistered The Farm Golf Club with a 7-under-par 65 in the first round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate, taking a three-shot lead when the rain-delayed first round was completed Saturday morning in Rocky Face, Ga.

The eighth-ranked Yellow Jackets posted an 8-over-par score of 296 as a team in the first round and were five shots off the lead held by Augusta State and East Tennessee State (each at 291).

Hadley, a sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., who tied for fourth at the NCAA Championship as a freshman, birdied nine holes on his round and posted the 65 despite a double-bogey at the par-4 16th. Cameron Tringale, Paul Haley and David Dragoo each shot 77 for the Yellow Jackets.

Five inches of rain on Friday in the Dalton area delayed the finish of round one until Saturday morning. First round play resumed at 8 a.m. Saturday, and the second round is currently in progress.
