Oct. 9, 2012

Once a week, RamblinWreck.com will introduce you to one of Georgia Tech’s seven women’s basketball freshmen as we get ready to tip-off the 2012-13 season Nov. 11 against Tennessee at McCamish Pavilion.

Je Zhe Newton is a 6-3 center from Chandler High School in Phoenix, Ariz and she captained the Chandler basketball team for three seasons. During her prep career, Newton scored more than 1,000 points and grabbed more than 700 rebounds. Newton was named a 2010-11 honorable mention to The Arizona Republic’s Arizona All-5A team and she was labeled a four-star prospect and the ninth-ranked post player in the nation by ESPN HoopGurlz.

Newton has two siblings, Sharné and Ne Ché. Newton chose Georgia Tech because of its prestigious degree, the women’s basketball program, and the beautiful campus.
