Tyaunna Marshall Named Georgia Women's College Player Of The Year

March 13, 2013

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech junior Tyaunna Marshall was selected as the Georgia Women’s College Player of the Year, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Tuesday.

Marshall is the fourth straight Yellow Jacket to win the award and a Tech player has claimed the honor in five of the last six years.

“I am very happy that the Atlanta Tipoff Club has recognized Ty as the Georgia Women’s College Player of the Year,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “She continues to grow as a player and a leader, and we are excited to see her progress into next season.”

Marshall was named to the All-ACC First Team and ACC All-Defensive Team this year. She was the only player to rank in the ACC’s top 10 in scoring, rebounding and steals during the regular season. The Upper Marlboro, Md., native tallied nine double-doubles in 2012-13 and 10 games with at least 20 points, and scored in double digits in 28 of 30 Tech games.

Her 542 points in 2012-13 are the fourth most scored in a single-season by a Yellow Jacket and her 37-point outburst against Miami was the highest scoring game by any ACC player this year. Marshall earned three ACC Player of the Week awards, which tied for the most in the conference.

Marshall scored her 1,000th career point in a win over Kennesaw State in November and finished the season with 1,520 career points, climbing from outside the top 25 to eighth all-time at Georgia Tech. She became only the fifth Yellow Jacket all-time to score at least 1,500 points and grab 600 rebounds.
