>> Georgia Tech, which has appeared in six consecutive NCAA tournaments, in 27 of the last 29, and in 29 all-time, begins play in the Nashville Regional on Friday versus No. 3-seed Illinois.
>> The Yellow Jackets are the No. 2-seed, and the regional also includes No. 1-seed Vanderbilt and No. 4-seed East Tennessee State. The winner of the double-elimination regional advances to play the Louisville Regional winner next week.
>> The Tech-Illinois game on Friday begins at 2 p.m. ET (1 p.m. local) and airs live on ESPN3 with Carter Blackburn and Ben McDonald. Nolan Alexander and Wade Rogers have the call on WREK 91.1 FM in Atlanta.
>> The Jackets are 65-57 (.533) all time in NCAA postseason play, which includes a 4-5 record in three College World Series appearances (1994, 2002, 2006). Tech has reached the Super Regional five times, and has played in the Regional championship game in each of its last nine postseason appearances.
>> Tech is an at-large selection for the 21st time in school history, sporting a 34-25 record, a No. 21 RPI and a fourth-ranked strength of schedule. Tech was 6-5 versus three national seeds — North Carolina 2-1, Virginia 2-2 and Florida State 2-2.
>> In the last 29 years, only two teams have more NCAA appearances than Georgia Tech’s 27. Both Miami and Florida State have qualified for all 29 NCAA tournaments in that span.
>> Tech is one of a league record-tying eight ACC teams in the field. An NCAA-best five ACC teams are hosting regionals.
>> First Team All-ACC honoree Zane Evans, who leads the team with a .369 (third in the ACC), 14 homers and 62 RBI, is one of six Golden Spikes Award semifinalists in the Nashville Regional. Evans is the ACC’s only player in the league’s top five in hits, homers, batting average and RBI.
