ATLANTA – Another school record went down in day two of the Georgia Tech Invitational at the hands of the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, Saturday. Their fast swimming has both teams sitting in fourth place at the end of two days of competition.
“I am so happy that our women are swimming well,” said Head Coach Courtney Shealy Hart. “I have believed in them all along but now they are believing in themselves and it is great to see. We had another school record broken in the 100-Fly this afternoon. Our men have also stepped up and had a great day today. We look forward to fast swimming and good diving tomorrow.”
The highlight of the night was the swimming of Keren Siebner. The senior started the day off with a school record time of 53.82 seconds in the 100-Fly with a first place finish. She continued her success into the finals where she notched a time of 53.83 for a third place finish. Teammate Jordan Evans also saw success in the same event notching a fifth place finals finish with a career best time of 54.50. Both times were NCAA `B’ cuts for the Jacket swimmers.
The men’s team also had success in the 100-Fly with Nico van Duijn earning a fourth place finish with a time of 48.88 while fellow newcomer Andrew Kosic took home ninth in the A-final with a time of 49.60. Nicholas Colletti found himself in a tie for 12th place with a career best time of 49.91 while Mike Hart rounded out the scorers with a 16th place finish in 50.39.
The men’s 400-IM saw two scorers in Dylan Kase and Johnnie Hermes. The duo mimicked their prelims placement with 18th and 20th place finishes respectively coming in with times of 4:03.53 and 4:12.71. Kristen Dornstauder rounded out 400-IM women’s swimmers with her 30th place finish of 4:35.44.
The men’s 100-Breast was led by Anton Lagerqvist who took home the runner up spot in the event with a time of 55.85. Max Randolph and Ryan Salmon, all a part of the A-final earned fifth (56.86) and 10th (57.43) place respectively. Hermes also tallied points for the Jackets in this event with his 17th place finish and a time of 59.97. In the women’s 100-Breast, Ariana Berg was the sole pointgetter for Tech will her 13th place finish in 1:05.08.
Lexi Weber continued her success into day two when she notched another fourth place finish this time in the 200-Free with a time of 1:49.97. She was followed by teammate Hailey White who tallied a sixth place finish in 1:50.17. Heidi Hatteberg won the B-Final with her 11th place finish of 1:50.13 while Sarah Broadley rounded out the pack in 1:51.72 touching the wall in 17th. On the men’s side, Zach Tillman took 12th with a time of 1:40.76 while Elliott Brockelbank rounded out the B-Final with a time of 1:43.77.
The backstrokers also had a successful day with Bo Hatchett and Nicholas Colletti going sixth (49.70), seventh (49.89) in the A-final while Wilson Wei took home 15th place in 51.73 and Jake Johnson netted a tie for 16th place with a time of 51.87.
On the diving side of things, Brandon Makinson took eighth for the second straight day, this time in the 1-meter dive with a score of 332.95. The duo of Helen Alvey and Ashley Hardy didn’t reach the diving finals as Alvey took 17th with a score of 257.75 while Hardy finished 23rd with a score of 224.75 in the 3-meter prelims.
The Jackets will finish out their fall season with the final day of the Georgia Tech Invitational tomorrow on Sunday, November 20. The prelims will begin at 9 a.m. and the finals will take place at 3 p.m.
