Lemons, Moss, Johnson and Bishop Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

ATLANTA – James Lemons II, Shantia Moss, Tiffany Johnson and Ryan Bishop were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, February 26, 2007.

Lemons, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., won the men’s triple jump with a personal-best and NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 51 feet, 3 ¾ inches at the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. Lemons also placed third in the long jump to earn All-ACC honors with a mark of 23 feet, 10 ¼ inches. He scored a total of 16 points at the championship meet to lead the men to a fourth-place finish.

Moss, a junior from Tamarac, Fla., set the ACC Indoor Championship and facility record with a personal-best and NCAA automatic qualifying time of 8.03 in the 60-meter hurdles. She is currently ranked first in the nation in the 60m hurdles. Moss also placed fifth in the 60-meter dash with a season-best time of 7.53. She garnered 14 points at the championship meet for the Jackets.

Johnson, a sophomore from Atlanta, Ga., led Georgia Tech to its first ever NFCA Leadoff Classic Tournament Championship last weekend, sharing the crown with No. 13 Michigan. Johnson, a pitcher/third baseman, was a perfect 4-0 in the circle, allowing just two runs and a microscopic 0.61 earned run average. She struck out a total of 35 for the week, walking just six batters in 23.0 innings pitched. Johnson fanned a career-high 13 Tennessee Tech batters on Sunday and walked none. She entered the DePaul game on Friday night with Tech leading 4-3 in the top of the third inning, and struck out 10 Blue Demon hitters and allowing just one hit over 5.0 innings. Johnson tossed her first complete-game shutout against No. 24 Massachusetts on Saturday morning, giving up just two hits and striking out seven Minutewomen. She began the week with a win over Gardner-Webb, working 4.0 innings, giving up one hit and striking out five.

Bishop, a senior from Signal Mountain, Tenn., led Georgia Tech to a sixth-place finish at the Men’s Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming Championships last weekend. He garnered All-ACC honors for the second time in his career with a third-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley, posting a lifetime-best and NCAA ‘B’ standard time of 3:51.92. Earlier in the week, he clocked a NCAA ‘B’ cut and personal-record time of 1:48.74 in the prelims of the 200 IM, finishing fifth in the finals with a time of 1:48.80. Bishop tallied his third finals appearance of the meet in the 200 breaststroke, finishing ninth with a season-best time of 2:01.87.
