Feb. 11, 2014

THE FLATS – Redshirt senior Shayla Bivins is one of five NCAA Division I women’s basketball student-athletes named to the 2014 Allstate WBCA Good Works Team.

Bivins has been honored for her outstanding dedication to leadership and helping others. This preeminent community service honor recognizes college basketball players who have made a commitment to improving their communities and the lives of others.

The Allstate WBCA Good Works Team is comprised of 10 student-athletes; five from the NCAA® Division I and five from NCAA Divisions II, III and the NAIA. A total of 84 WBCA nominees were submitted. The final team rosters were chosen by prestigious voting panels comprised of former coaches, student-athletes and media members.

Bivins joins Kastine Evans of Kentucky, Alyssa Englert of Hartford, NeTanya Jones of McNeese State and Courtney Moses of Purdue on the NCAA Division I 2013 Allstate WBCA Good Works team.

“The WBCA is proud to once again partner with Allstate in recognizing conscientious and caring student-athletes who are making a difference in their respective communities,” said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. “Congratulations to these 10 young women and to the coaches who are privileged to have them on their respective teams.”

Bivins has aided the Jackets in various community service initiatives including the Jacket-to-Jacket reading program, Girls on the Run and the Atlanta Two-Day Breast Cancer Walk. She was elected one of three captains of the 2013-14 Yellow Jackets and helped organize the 2014 Women Out Front recognition ceremony.
