Three Aqua Jackets Swim Into Finals at Men's ACC Championships

ATLANTA – Junior All-American Sam Morgan won the preliminaries heat of the 500-yard freestyle with a NCAA `B’ standard time of 4:21.49 to lead the Georgia Tech men’s swimming and diving team at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships on Thursday morning in the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. The finals will begin at 7 p.m.

Sophomore Ryan Bishop swam into the finals tonight in the 200 individual medley with a NCAA `B’ cut time of 1:49.35 to finish fifth in the event for the Yellow Jackets. Senior Matt Figh also qualified for the finals tonight in the 500 free with a NCAA `B’ cut time of 4:26.97, finishing ninth in the prelims.

In the 50 free, juniors Teemu Kettunen and Jason Howard broke the school record with times of 20.49 and 20.55 to finish in seventh and 10th place, respectively. Senior Marc Maier made the bonus finals in the 50 free with a lifetime-best time of 20.76.
