Tech Drops Dual With Gamecocks

COLOMBIA, S.C. – Despite a couple of relay wins, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s swimming and diving squads dropped a dual meet at South Carolina Saturday. The men fell 176-122 while the women were outscored 179.5-116.5.

The Jackets finished the meet with a flourish earning both 400-Free Relay victories as the women touched the wall first in 3:30.06 while the men finished 3:05.14.

Jordan Evans continued her success with the 100-Fly victory finishing in 56.61 seconds. Keren Sibner touched the wall in third place in the even with a time of 57.29. Nico van Duijn earned a runner-up finish on the men’s side of things with a time of 50.64. Michael Hart took third in 51.68 and Mark Sarman took fourth with a time of 52.00.

Andrew Kosic took home the victory in the 100-Free with a 46.00 finish as Nigel Plummer earned the runner-up position with a 46.77 finish. Lexi Weber also earned the victory on the women’s side of things with a 52.38 finish as Sarah Broadley took third in the race with a time of 53.25.

Weber also finished first in the 50-Free with a time of 23.84 as this time, Plummer took first place in 20.93 while Andrew Kosic netted a third place performance in 21.21. Lagerqvist took second in the 100-Breast with a time of 57.99 while Ariana Berg earned the same place with a time of 1:06.67.

Hailey White earned the victory in the 200-Free with a time of 1:53.15 with Weber earning the runner-up slot with a 1:53.30 finish.

The divers didn’t see as much success as the past meet, however, Brandon Makinson took third in both of the men’s events with scores of 331.65 in the 1-meter and 343.72 in the 3-meter dive. Chris Khosravi earned the fourth place finish earning a score of 320.92 in the 1-meter dive and 317.18 in the 3-meter.

On the women’s side of things, Helen Alvey earned the third place finish in the 3-meter dive with a score of 308.47 also taking the second place finish in the 1-meter with a 282.45 tally.

The Jackets will be back in action in a couple of weeks when they begin a weekend of competition with a tri-meet against Clemson and Western Kentucky on Friday, November 4 at 6 p.m. followed by a dual with Big 10 foe Penn State on Saturday, November 5 at 11 a.m.
