DURHAM, N.C. – No. 25 Georgia Tech’s 1-2 punch of Brandon Gold and Matthew Gorst delivered once again Tuesday as the Yellow Jackets advanced to pool play of the ACC Baseball Championships with a 6-0 win over Boston College.
It was the fourth game between the teams in the last six days. With the win, Georgia Tech (36-20) eliminated Boston College (31-20) as the Jackets hit three home runs Tuesday and have now hit 21 homers in their last 11 games.
Gold (8-3) scattered seven hits in 6.2 shutout innings with five strikeouts. Gorst came on to close the game for his 12th save of the season, allowing two hits in 2.1 scoreless innings.
Tuesday was Tech’s first shutout victory in the ACC Baseball Championship since a 3-0 win over Clemson on May 23, 2014, in Greensboro.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Tech broke the scoreless tie in the 3rd on a Wade Bailey RBI single up the middle for a 1-0 lead.
• Tech added a second run in the 4th thanks to Trevor Craport’s solo home run to left-center over the blue monster.
• The Jackets added another run in the 6th for a 3-0 lead. Brandt Stallings plated Tristin English with an RBI double down the left field line.
• Tech added three insurance runs in the 9th to pull away. With one out, Matt Gonzalez drilled a solo home run over the blue monster for a 4-0 lead. Two batters later, English launched Tech’s third home run of the day – a 2-run blast – to left-center for a 6-0 advantage.

• Georgia Tech has now hit 21 home runs in the last 11 games.
• Georgia Tech turned two more double plays, increasing its NCAA-leading total to 73. Tech needs five more to break the school mark of 77 set in 2014.
• Sophomore Kel Johnson when 1-for-5, extending his team-best hitting streak to 11 games.
• Senior Matt Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a home run. Gonzalez is now tied with Jason Basil for 4th on Tech’s all-time list with 289 career hits.
