THE FLATS – For the second consecutive game, No. 20 Georgia Tech was unable to recover from No. 3 Miami’s offensive outburst as the Yellow Jackets lost 17-6 at Russ Chandler Stadium on Monday night.
Georgia Tech (31-16, 11-12 ACC) surrendered a season-high 17 runs on a season-high 22 hits, while Miami (36-9, 16-6 ACC) won a series in Atlanta for the first time since 2012.
Senior Matt Gonzalez, the nation’s active career leader in hits, posted his second straight three-hit performance. Gonzalez went 3-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run, two doubles and three RBI.
THE BASICS
• Georgia Tech allowed 10+ runs for the ninth time. The Jackets are 0-9 in those games.
• Tech trails the all-time series with Miami 36-57-2 and is 26-34 under head coach Danny Hall.
• Georgia Tech has allowed 5+ runs in an inning 17 times (15 games). Tech is now 3-12 when allowing 5+ runs in an inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Zack Collins’ RBI single through the right side scored Christopher Barr to give Miami a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st.
• Georgia Tech responded with two runs in the bottom half of the 1st for a 2-1 lead. Matt Gonzalez hit a towering shot off the wall in center and collected his career-first inside-the-park home run. Kel Johnson followed with a solo home run to right field.
• Trevor Craport extended Tech’s lead to 3-1 in the 2nd with a solo home run to right-center.
• Miami responded with a 5-run 4th and a 6-run 5th to take a commanding 12-3 lead.
• The Yellow Jackets scratched two runs in the 5th on Gonzalez’s 2-RBI double to right-center.
• Tristin English scored on a wild pitch in the 6th to cut the deficit to 12-6.
• Jacob Heyward made it 13-6 in the 8th with a solo homer to left.
• Miami added four more runs in the 9th.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Matt Gonzalez recorded his career-first inside-the-park home run in the 1st.
• Gonzalez and Kel Johnson hit back-to-back home runs in the 1st.
• Gonzalez passes Tony Plagman for 7th on Tech’s career doubles list. Gonzalez now has 57 doubles for his career.
• Gonzalez moved into 11th place on Tech’s career hits lists with 275.
• Connor Justus (86 games) and Kel Johnson (40 games) each extended their career-best consecutive starts streaks on Monday vs. Miami.
