The Flats – The Georgia Tech swimming & diving program will host its annual White vs. Gold intrasquad meet this weekend, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 29-30, at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech.
“We are looking forward to competing this weekend. We have been practicing for over a month and now it is time to put that hard work to the first test of the year,” head coach Courtney Shealy Hart. “We always like to do our White vs. Gold intrasquad meet to give us a trial run for what our meets will be like throughout the season, but it is especially important this year because we are a young team. Plus our first meet is an important ACC meet versus Pitt just one week away, so it is important that we treat this intrasquad meet as an official meet to only better prepare us for the upcoming season.”
The two-day intrasquad will kick-off on Friday, Sept. 29, at 2:15 p.m. with a total of eight events on the docket. The meet will begin with the 200 yard free relay and the 200 yard IM. The 500 yard free, the 100 yard breast, the 200 back, the 100 yard free and the 200 yard fly will follow before the 400 yard medley relay concludes day one of the intrasquad competition.
Day two of the White vs. Gold meet will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, and will again start off with a relay event in the 200 yard medley relay. After a five minute break, seven straight individual events in the 400 yard IM, 200 yard free, 100 yard fly, 200 yard breast, 100 yard back, 50 yard free and the 1000 yard free will follow with the 400 yard free relay closing out the two-day event.
Saturday’s events will also include the diving portion of the meet beginning at 9:30 a.m. The diving team will do a mixed gender event in which each diver will perform one dive from the 3-meter springboard and the platform. The dive scores from each team member will be combined in order to get the total team score.
The Yellow Jackets will open the 2017-18 season versus Pittsburgh on Friday, Oct. 6, at 3 p.m. in the McAuley Aquatic Center.
