Kurey, Woodard Win Fourth-Straight; Advance to Finals

ATHENS, Ga. – The #26-ranked pair of sophomores Megan Kurey and Kendal Woodard advanced to the doubles main draw finals at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships after a win this morning.

Kurey and Woodard recorded their fourth-straight victory of the tournament, defeating Georgia State’s Marcia Tere-Apisah and Tarani Kamoe, 8-6, in the semifinals. The duo will face #50 Lauren Herring and Maho Kowase of Georgia in the finals on Monday.

Both freshmen Rasheeda McAdoo and Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer each went 2-0 in singles competition in the singles consolation bracket today.

During the round of 32, McAdoo faced off against Florida State’s Eduarda Nardi Dos Santos. Dos Santos won the first match 6-2 before McAdoo won set two, 6-4. In the tiebreaker, McAdoo defeated her opponent, 10-6, to win the match. Anton-Ohlmeyer defeated UCF’s Courtney Griffth in two sets, 6-2, 6-3, to advance to the round of 16.

McAdoo’s next opponent of the day was UNF’s Marina Cunningham. McAdoo recorded a 6-1, 6-2, victory. Georgia State’s Jordana Klein won the first set against Anton-Ohlmeyer, 7-5. Anton-Ohlmeyer rebounded with a 6-2 win in set two and carried her momentum into the tiebreaker, winning, 11-9.

Singles consolation play is through with play for the weekend.
